Whānau Ora for Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa is about assisting the process of supporting whānau to determine their own health goals and quality of life. The emphasis is placed on whole populations so that the individuals within those communities can be in an active role towards achieving health gains for all.

Iwi Health is a team dedicated to offering support to all Maori Whanau living within Kirikiriroa, in the following health areas:

  • KIPC – the Kirikiriroa Injury Prevention Collective
  • Breastfeeding Promotion and Advocacy
  • BACK – the Breastfeeding Advocacy Coalition, Kirikiriroa.
  • Breastfeeding promotion also contributes to advocacy for smokefree homes and healthy ears for our tamariki mokopuna.
  • Promotion of Tamariki Ora (Well Child) Services.

Iwi Health Service objectives are:

  • To improve and protect the health of tamariki by promoting positive parenting and social support for parents and caregivers. See our evaluation here.
  • To ensure safety promotion programmes are available to those communities most at need
  • To increase breastfeeding promotion, advocacy and co-ordination at both national and local levels. Have a look at our Breastfeeding Anywhere, Anytime, Anyplace project
  • We also work closely with other Health and Community providers with an emphasis on Kaupapa Maori and Maori Concepts of Health.
